Chianti Classico – Italian tradition at its best
One of the great names in Italian wine is the Tuscan Chianti Classico. The other day I had the opportunity to try a 2005 Chianti Classico Riserva from Fattoria Ispoli. Fattoria Ispoli is a small winery that has dedicated production to organic wine.
The wine is produced with 100% Sangiovese (Sangiovèto) grapes and aged 24 months in French oak. Fattoria Ispoli’s Chianti Classico Riserva retails in my local Enoteca for 21€. The wine is classified as Chianti Classico DOCG (Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita).
The wine had an intense garnet red color. The bouquet was complex with aromas of blackberries, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate, I tasted red fruits. Oak did not dominate too much This Chianti Classico was dry and full-bodied. All in all, very well balanced wine. Long aftertaste.
In my opinion the wine is very good and harmonic and I’ve enjoyed this one a lot more than some other Chianti’s I’ve had before. I’ve found this wine in many different Enotecas before so if you stumble over this bottle you might want to give it a try. Chianti Classico Riserva from Fattoria Ispoli is recommended.
Please note that the image of the bottle is from the 2003 vintage.
