Wine Quiz Answers
Let’s have a look at the answers to this week’s wine quiz #14.
In question 2 you had to name the city where VinItaly is taking place. The correct answer is Verona.
The next question focused on the world famous Sassicaia. I have talked about the Sassicaia in this article which also includes the answer to the question. Sassicaia is the only single-vineyard with its own DOC in Italy. The vineyard is owned by Tenuta San Guido.
The correct answer for question 4 is Tignanello is the name of the very first Super Tuscan. Tignanello is manufactured by Antinori.
The last question focused on second labels. There is not one single right answer to this question. Second label my refer to a less-known winery owned by a reputable label. Second label (or second wine) can also refer to a wine made of lesser quality grapes. Let’s take Tenuta San Guido as an example. Their first wine is Sassicaia and their second label (or second wine) is Guidalberto. Le Difese would be their third wine.
The bonus question has no right or wrong answer. One of my favorite 2013 tre bicchieri wine is the 2009 Cantine Due Palme – Selvarossa Riserva – Salice Salentino DOC. Follow this link to the tasting notes for the 2008 vintage, which won the 3 bicchieri award in the 2012 edition of the Gambero Rosso.
Once again I want to thank everyone for participating. This week we have multiple winners. Anatoli from Talk-A-Vino, Hannah from Hannah-Theis, Jeff from The Drunken Cyclist and Wineking3. Congratulations! Enjoy your bragging rights. Jeff has been on a roll solving the last four quizzes in a row!
Next Monday there will be a new quiz. If you missed yesterday’s tasting notes for a pretty good Sammarinese Sangiovese click here.
