Wine Quiz #20 – Solutions

Wine Quiz #20 – Solutions

A little late (it is past midnight here) but here are the answers to this week’s wine quiz.

The correct answer for question 1 is D – Pinot Nero. Morellino, Prugnolo and San Gioveto are synonyms for Sangiovese.

In question 2 I asked you which wine was the first DOCG wines. The correct answer is Brunello di Montalcino. Hannah pointed out correctly that Vernaccia di San Gimignano became the first DOC on March 3rd 1966. However, I did not ask what the first DOC wine was. Brunello di Montalcino was awarded DOCG status on July 1st 1980. Another correct answer is Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. It was awarded DOCG status on July 1st 1980, too.

The right answer for question 3 is amphora.

Amarone translates to “The Great Bitter” and is therefore the correct answer for question 4.

Sherry is the correct answer for question 5. Sherry is an Anglicization of Xeres.

This week we have three winners: Sean P. Talk-A-Vino and Armchairsommelier. Congratulations! Enjoy your bragging rights!

On Monday we will have a new quiz. Thanks to everyone for playing!
